10+ Ideas for a Cozy Night at Home

I don’t know about y’all, but this winter has been so cold and dreary that I often can’t WAIT to get back home at night and have a cozy night in. Whenever I have a particularly long or stressful day, I always plan something at night to look forward to that will help me relax and feel pampered. Relaxing at night relieves stress, helps me sleep better, and in the morning I wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to tackle the day. Here are some of my favorite ways to make your home and night more cozy:

One // Choose warm lightbulbs for your home.
This may sound crazy, but hear me out 🙂 Warm lighting feels more natural to us in the evenings. As part of our natural human circadian rhythm, warm light helps us relax and wind down to get ready for sleep. White, cool lighting helps us be alert and energetic for performing tasks, so cool lighting in your home may interfere with your inner clock. I recently purchased these lamps which are sooo pretty and with warm lightbulbs they look beautiful at night!

Two // Watch your favorite show.
Whether it’s New Girl on Tuesday nights or a show you’re binge-watching on Netflix, plan a couple of nights per week where you can stay in and unwind with your favorite show. I look forward to The Bachelor all week (it’s my guilty pleasure!).

Three // Take a bubble bath.
Taking a bath is one of the ways I love to relax in the evenings. This bubble bath is so luxurious and smells amazing, and I follow it up with this body lotion to keep my skin moisturized during the winter months.

Four // Invest in a high-quality robe.
My robe might me one of my favorite items I own. If I’m in my apartment, 95% of the time I have my robe on (even over my regular clothes)! A high-quality one will last you a long time and will help keep you warm. This brand is known for softness and amazing quality.

Five // Put on a face mask.
I find face masks really relaxing – especially sheet masks – because you’re forced to remain still for ten minutes while it soaks in. Plus your skin will thank you!

Six // Surround yourself with lots of pillows.
One way to make your house feel cozier is to put a lot of comfortable pillows on your living room couch. I like to mix and match pillows by combining different textures and prints. This faux fur one would be the perfect addition.

Seven // Light a scented candle.
Scented candles provide a feeling of “coziness” in your home and they also make your house smell good. I have candles in my living room, bedroom and bathroom and I love lighting them throughout the house at night (I have been loving this scented one in particular this winter). For a spa-like experience, dim the lights in your bathroom and take a bubble bath by candlelight.

Eight // Invest in a neck pillow.
But not just any neck pillow! This one has a removable insert that’s filled with flaxseed and lavender flowers that you can heat in the microwave. I bought a similar one in Lake Tahoe and it is so wonderfully comforting on a cold night. Plus the scent of lavender will make you sleepy!

Nine // Read a book.
Reading in bed at night is one of my favorite ways to unwind. It helps take your mind off of your stresses and calms your brain before sleep. Plus it keeps you from being on your phone/computer before bed (which can keep you up!). You can find some of my book recommendations HERE and HERE.

Ten // Make a cup of tea.
Making a steaming cup of chamomile tea in the evenings is one of my favorite ways to unwind. Plus, how chic is this monogrammed glass mug?

Eleven // Invest in soft blankets.
In the wintertime, soft blankets are a must! I love wrapping myself up in a blanket and watching TV at night, and I HAVE to have a soft blanket on me when I go to sleep. This one has little faux fur pom-poms on it, which makes for a really fun and cozy touch (I own it in grey).

Twelve // Pamper your feet.
Once a week, I’ll plan to do a foot-pampering treatment at home. I use a foot scrub, follow it up with therapeutic foot repair balm (I pick mine up from Ulta) and then put on fuzzy socks to help the lotion soak in. These slippers would be the perfect addition – they can be microwaved or chilled to relax sore, achy feet.

Let me know your favorites ways to spend a cozy night at home in the comments! 🙂

xoxo

  11. I have that same blanket with the faux fur poms (in grey) and it is one of my favourite items in the house. I selfishly hog it all to myself. It's currently 'winter' in the Caribbean so I am getting as much use out of it as I can before it will be banished for the hot and sticky summer months. Love these tips – I'm guilty of needing to spend more nights at home relaxing.
